God says we need to love our enemies.

It hard to do.

But it can start by telling the truth.

No one had ever asked me what it feel like to be me.

Once I told the truth about that, I felt free.

-Aibileen, The Help

I’m spending time with Minny, Skeeter, Celia, and Aibileen again tonight.

The Help is one of my all-time favorite movies. Some people accused it of being ‘just another movie about a little white girl swooping in and saving the day’, but as far as I’m concerned, if that’s what they thought, they didn’t pay attention to the film or the book at all. Skeeter wasn’t the heroine. She was one of them, for sure, but not the only or even main.

Minny and Celia’s friendship is to this day one of the best ever created. The way Aibileen talks to Mae Mobley (especially at the end) breaks my heart every time. I don’t know how anyone watched without being moved–you get super-duper ticked off, you fall in love,  there’s humor, you fear for the characters, you’re proud of their triumphs, and when their hearts break, yours will too.

Trailer below, just in case.

All for now.

PS: I couldn’t credit the quote graphic above because I found it on a search engine with no proper credits while working on something completely different and that’s what sent me on this particular journey. 😉
